Installing ProPhoto:

This tutorial shows you how to install and activate ProPhoto theme. It assumes that you already have a self-hosted WordPress installation on your website. If you haven't done that yet, you'll probably want to watch this tutorial. The sections of this tutorial are:

  1. Understanding and uploading ProPhoto files
  2. Activating the ProPhoto theme
  3. Activating and Tweaking the Ajaxed-WP plugin

Step 1: Understand and Upload

To install ProPhoto theme, you'll need to upload the files from your download folder into the correct spots in your WordPress folder structure and then make some changes in your blog admin area.  If you're confused about uploading these files, you might want to watch (or re-watch) this video about using FTP to upload files.

Video: Understanding and uploading ProPhoto files

1. INSIDE your download folder (note: do not simply upload the entire folder you downloaded when you purchesed), you'll see a folder called "prophoto."  You need to upload this ENTIRE folder into the themes folder of your WordPress blog, which can be found inside the wp-content folder.

2. Also in your download folder, you'll find a folder called "plugins - upload CONTENTS not folder."  Do not upload this entire folder anywhere.  Instead, upload the contents of this folder (which consists of a folder and two files) into your plugins folder inside the wp-content folder.

3. Once these folders and files have been uploaded, log into your site-admin area and click on 'Design ('Presentation' in WP 2.3 and earlier).' You should see the ProPhoto theme as on of the available themes below the currently selected theme.  If you don't see it, check to make sure that you uploaded the folder into the wp-content/themes folder.  Click on ProPhoto to activate the theme.

Step 2: Tweak Ajaxd-WP plugin

[Note: Ajaxd-WP (AWP) is a free plugin for WordPress developed by Aaron Harun. You can check out his excellent website here.  We are in no way claiming to sell it.  ProPhoto simply comes preconfigured to work out of the box with AWP.  We've already coded it into the page templates, created custom comment templates, and custom CSS rules to create the inline comment area.  The plugin is included in your ProPhoto download only to save you the step of downloading it yourself for free. If you like the plugin and appreciate inline comments, use the "donate" button in the AWP Managment admin panel to send a little love back to it's creator.]

Once ProPhoto is activated, you need to activate and slightly tweak the  Ajaxed-WP plugin. To do this, click on "Plugins" and then click "Activate" in the Ajaxed-WP section.  After activating, you need to change two settings.  First, leave the plugins area by clicking on "Design ('Presentation' in WP 2.3 and earlier)" and then click "AWP Managment" in the sub-navigation area.  Then click on the "Comments" button and scroll about halfway down the page.  Select «—Use a custom awp comment template for your theme, and then scroll to the bottom of your page and click "Save."

If you wish to remove the small link to AWP that the plugin automatically creates at the bottom of your blog, in the main AWP Management area, scroll down to the bottom and unclick the box that says: «—Append a small link to aWP to blog footer
