Frequently Asked Questions:
Troubles uploading images with WordPress 2.5
[Note: you might also want to read this post, about the problem where your image upload box freezes and turns white, not allowing you to insert images.]
Hey all, I thought I’d quick post because some people have been having trouble with the image uploader feature of WordPress 2.5. These issues seem to be mostly experienced by those using PC’s and Internet Explorer. Often, using FireFox instead is enough to get it working. If not, you may want to read this thread and try some of the things they recommend.

Hopefully WordPress will have this resolved when they release 2.5.1 in a few weeks. If you use a PC and haven’t upgraded yet, this is probably a good reason to wait.
By the way, this is a WordPress problem, and not a ProPhoto problem, so I can’t provide support for you if you’re having trouble. WordPress is an open-source platform used by millions, so there are lots of resources out there. If you’re having trouble, try googling your problem (if you’re getting an error message, try googling the exact error message) or visit the WordPress support forum:

I had problems with multiple uploads as I did run the auto updater that you can install as a plug-in. I did manually replace the wp-admin and wp-includes folders through ftp and I got the multiple uploader to work fine.
This on a Mac OS X (10.4.11) machine with Safari.
I was having all kinds of trouble and then i switched from firefox to safari just to see if that would help (I’m on a Mac) and it works perfectly — WHEW!
uncaught exception: Permission denied to get property Window.tinyMCE
I keep getting the above message in firebug when trying to upload pictures. I have had no problems in the past if I am uploading in Firefox, but now all of a sudden it is not working. I have not upgraded or changed anything. I did the Wordpress directions, but no change. I have tried IE, Safari, and Firefox! I am on a PC but have had no luck! Any suggestions would be helpful!
I just wanted to post this here, for all those having this same issue! As suggested by another photographer, if you are using “Tabbed’ browsing in Firefox, close all other tabs and then try posting your images! It worked for me!
@Ganell: thanks for the tip!
Mine says this after I upload an image. Most of the time, everything works fine and then all of a sudden it starts doing this. It’s so finicky. I know the image uploads fine b/c I’ve done it before fine. Help! I tried that tab suggestion and still had the problem.
oops. I forgot to paste the message I get and it’s working now so I’m not getting the message. Guess I’ll have to check back when it starts again… unless this seems like a familiar problem.
I’ve had problems with my most recent post… I continue to have problems. The images show up for me on my computer but no one else’s computer (I’ve called several friends to check). Mine is a mac. Theirs’ are PCs if that matters. Instead of the images, they get .5 inch squares with an “x” in the middle. They even cleared cache before looking. I’ve tried deleting and reinserting. I’ve tried deleting from gallery and re-uploading and inserting and nothing. Appreciate your help.
@amanda: i think maybe the problem is your images are WAAAAAAY too big. they are like 1.3 megabytes, when they should be about 100-200K, which means they are more than 10 times too big. see these posts:

i’m guessing maybe the PC browsers just choke and give up.
Jared, I did with the images what you told me to do and now they’re WAY too small. AND I’m still having people tell me they can’t see them on their computers. It’s getting super frustrating and would love any insight you might have to offer.
@amanda: your images still aren’t right. now their only 300px by 200px in pixel dimension and 700 kilobytes in file size. they should be 900px by 600px in dimension and only about 100k in file size.
what program are you using to save and optomize these images? did you read the posts i mentioned about how to optimize your images? you should be able to use photoshop to save for web at about 80% and get them the right size. don’t look at all at the DPI, that doesn’t matter on the web. just get the pixel dimensions right and optimize it and it should be about the right size.
another thing i’m wondering is if you’ve got some kind of really funky color profile or file version of JPG that is causing the JPG not to show on PC’s. saving for web and devices in photoshop should fix this too.
Hi, new user…
I’m trying to upload images, in the flash uploader it says: HTTP error
and when using the browser uploader, the images loads but will not show in browser when previewing post!
Please help…
@Jan: can you send me an email through the support tab with your WP login info so i can take a look?
jared, my problem was the funky color profile. I changed it to RGB from CMYK and it was fixed. Thanks!
Hi Jared,
I can’t upload images in the new WP blog (wildly frustrating). I’ve tried uploading a new version of WP and using Firefox, but it still isn’t working. Then I tried downloading Quamana, but I get an error message when the program tried to access my blog:
“XML-RPC disabled on this blog,” which I gather is something to do with pinging, when the blogger createds a new post.
Do you know how to enable the XML-RPC in the WP blog so that I can get Quanama to work?
Many thanks,
Monique
@Monique: you can enable XML-RPC under “Settings” -> “Writing”.
what exact problem are you have uploading image? can you let me know the error message? maybe i can help you get that working.
@Lauren: email me through the support tab, send me your WP login and FTP info and I’ll get in there and fix it, i have a pretty high success rate in getting this type of problem resolved.
