Frequently Asked Questions:
How can I horizontally center my vertical (or small) images?
When you’re inserting your image, in the small box-like window where you upload and insert the image, there is a little button that says ‘center’ next to the word ‘alignment’, as shown below.
Just click that before you insert the image.
If that doesn’t work for you, you probably purchased ProPhoto before July 30, 2008, when I fixed a little bug. See here for simple instructions on how to get this working.

Hi Jared,
This should be simple. Not sure what I’m missing. I just want to center justify my images. I searched your help section and found this…
“When you’re creating your post, in the visual editor simply click on your image, and then click on the “center-aligned text” button, which looks like this:
Old images from imported blogs may not be centered, depending on how they were originally coded before importing.”
I don’t see the “center-aligned text button”. I don’t see any option to format the text…ie center, left or right justification.
Thanks,
Lowell
Lowell Tindell » are you maybe in “html” (or “code”) editor mode instead of “visual” editor? None of the text justification and formatting options are visible in html/code mode. Look in the top of your posting window for two tabs.
Hey Jared,
I have really enjoye dthe video tutorials, but do have a question. When I insert an image into a post, I am having difficulty being able to type after that image (say between image one and a soon to be uploaded image two) whenever I click to try and add type after inserting the image, all I get is either resizing handles on the image, or the image gets deleted….what should I be doing?
Thanks
Kristi – what version of WP are you using? Sometimes due to the size of the images we post, it is hard to click to the right of an image to start typing again.
What I usually do is insert an image, click just to the right of the right edge of the image, press return to make sure I’m on a new line, and start typing.
If you’re having trouble getting your cursor on the right of the image, try using full-screen mode (if you have WP 2.5.x or above).
Sometimes, in a pinch, I will switch to HTML mode and find the end of the code for my image, then click there, press return twice, and type something. Then I switch back to visual mode and I can resume typing.
Jared, this is probably an easy answer, but my posts do not appear as images, until I click on the post title or on the “Click to continue reading…” link. I would like to display a single image for each post. What setup am I missing?
Thanks,
Max
@Max: I don’t see what you’re talking about. Did you get it figured out?
Jared, all squared away.
Thanks,
Max.
Ok, this subject is kinda getting frustrating for me as I am unable to center my images no matter what method.
I tried highlighting the image in the “visual editor” and then center justify. That won’t work.
I’ve added multiple different html tags to my “html editor” to center them. Still won’t work.
It defies reason, and I hope I”m just doing something stupid.
For me I upload my pics to photobucket and then do large posts with all my html code for my images at once, but I can’t seem to code the images center. ( I used to be able to just put tags around it all and it worked, and those posts from old blog that are formatted this way ARE centered. Just can’t make new centered posts in wordpress)
Anyone have an idea???
@Heather Meyers: are you saying that you paste in a bunch of html from photobucket? that’s probably why clicking on the center justify button didn’t work. nab the email address from the support tab and send me an example of the html you paste in from photobucket and i’ll see what i can do for you.
Hi there. I tried doing what was suggested here, and I just bought this 3 days ago, and the images are still not centering. Any ideas?
yeah, i think my ‘bugfix’ has a bug. try going to the link in this post for the bugfix, copy the code and paste it into the bottom of your stylesheet. i just changed the code yesterday.
sorry!
I don’t use the visual editor in wordpress, I always use the html editor, I guess I’m old school! AND I always upload my pics to flickr then get the code from flickr cut and paste into the post. What my question is, is there a way to add some code to the css so that my flickr pics are always centered?
@laurie: i just looked at your blog and it looks like you’re wrapping theme in <center> tags, which should work, although it is deprecated. it looks fine in FF3/Mac, is it working on your browser?
yeah, it’s working for me. I’m on a mac/FF3 also. That’s the only way I knew how to do it. =/
Is there a way to change the default settings for adding images? For instance, if I always want my images to be centered and full size without a link, can I change the default on the insert image menu to reflect that? It is probably a WP issue, not a PPT issue, but I’m still hoping you can help!
@Holly: i’m not aware of a way to do this, but you might try posting on the wordpress forums; wordpress.org/support
I’m having an issue with my vertical photos centering when I add a caption. If I don’t add a caption, they center fine but if I do they will only align left. Is this just a glitch or is there something I can do to fix this? Thanks! By the way, I love this template and am so impressed!
oops, sorry I put the wrong link in my website for the above post. Please use this one instead. Thanks!
@Heather Moore: wordpress kind of added the caption feature after this theme was released, and so i’m not surprised it’s not working right. if you can wait a few days and shoot me an email through the support tab next week, i’ll work out a solution you can use to fix this. thanks!
I have a sequence of photos that I want inserted into a post and I want all the images centered. What is the exact sequence of loading, centering, publishing… so that the pictures are published in the order I specify and are centered.
Thank you
@michael: Just, upload all your images, and then insert them one at a time, clicking on the “Center align” button each time you insert them.
Seriously happy i found this amazing site, Another good site is Dbol will be sure to book mark it so i can check out regularly.
This is an excellent. Loving it man!
