Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I embed a ShowIt slideshow? How do I center it?

Q: Can I embed a ShowIt slideshow? How do I center it?

A: Yes, just paste the embed code generated by ShowIt Web into the CODE EDITOR section of your posting admin panel.

If you want the slideshow centered, after you’ve pasted in the code into the code editor, add this tag before: <p align="center"> and this tag after:</p>.

NOTE: if you can’t see the controls of your ShowIt slideshow after embedding it, it’s probably a background color issue. For example, if you normally have your ShowIt slideshow web pages with a black background, ShowIt will make the controls WHITE so you can see them. However, if you paste the embed code into a blog with a white background, now you won’t be able to see the controls even though they are there. To fix this, just create an additional showit web page with the same background color as your blog, and use the embed code generated when making that page.

NOTE #2: Sometimes people get a problem when embedding ShowIt slideshows where the whole blog kind of breaks, and text below the show flows off into the background and everything looks weird. Click here for fix.

    Hey People!
    is this code right?
this is definately not working for me! Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

  2. On Jared said:

Lindsay => your slideshows seem to be working fine, as far as i can tell, just loading slowly. Did you get it all figured out?

  3. On Lindsey Marie said:

thanks for responding! i see that they work i just can’t get them centered, that’s all! thanks!

  4. On Jared said:

ahhh, i see the problem, you have an extra set of quotes around “center” your code says: <p align="”center”">. Remove the inner, curley quotes and you should be fine.

Editing the showit.xml file and replacing FFFFFF with 000000 will work. Check out the colors for text.

    thanks

    Hi Jared,
I’m able to embed my slideshow, but I can’t seem to get it centered no matter what I do. I’d appreciate any suggestions you might have.

  7. On Jared said:

Sinead, your embed code (I think) looks like this:

    <div><iframe width=”610″ scrolling=”no” height=”590″ frameborder=”0″ title=”Showit Web Slideshow” src=”http://studiosinead.com/slideshows/shostak/iframe.html” style=”border: medium none ;”/></div>

    It should look like this:

    <div align=”center”><iframe width=”610″ scrolling=”no” height=”590″ frameborder=”0″ title=”Showit Web Slideshow” src=”http://studiosinead.com/slideshows/shostak/iframe.html” style=”border: medium none ;”/></div>

    Thank you, Jared.

    Hi Jared,

I’m trying to upload a ShowIt slideshow.. but it’s not working. I copied the code under the “html” part of the post, but this is what it says:

The requested URL /Swimming/iframe.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have upload the file to the “www” .

    Any suggestions would be great!

    Jared,
In addition to using Showit Web I am considering using SimpleViewer for my static image postings. SimpleViewer has a WP plugin. Do you know of any issues that I may run into if I decide to use it? It appears that I can set SimpleViewer image size so I will not lose the big image capability ProPhoto provides. Thanks, – Jeff

  12. On Jared said:

@Jeff: I do not have any experience with SimpleViewer, so I’m afraid I can’t tell you. There are very few conflicts between this theme and plugins that I’m aware of, so I’m guessing it will work. Why don’t you give it a shot and see, and then report back.

    Hi Jared,

I want to upload a Showit Slideshow and I don’t understand where to look for the things you listed at the top of this page. Please help! I need a little more direction as to where I can find the code editor.

    Thanks!

  14. On Jared said:

Sinead, whey you’re posting a new post, in the upper right of the posting box there is a button that says either “code” or “html”. that’s the code editor. is that what you couldn’t find?

  15. On April Smith said:

Yeah… I saw that button. So do I click on that and then insert the slideshow code? Do I need to do anything else?

    Thanks!

  16. On Jared said:

@April Smith: just click on html and paste in the showit embed code.

  19. On David Matherne said:

Is there a plugin for Showit Web? Or is there anything that you have to do to ProPhoto or Word Press to make this embed work?
    Thanks
    David

  20. On Jared said:

@David Matherne: nope, you just paste the embed code straight into the HTML mode of the post write box. you do have to have already created and uploaded the showit web slideshow like normal. some people don’t realize that.

  21. On David said:

Jared….Where do I upload it to. I’ve tried two places….To my blue host account under the Html public directory and also on my web site in the same place by creating a ’slideshow’ directory and uploading the entire folder that was created there.
What happens is I paste the code, save and publish, but when viewing the site, it seems to create the proper place for the show, but its invisible. I’ve followed your instructions for making the controls visible….nothing.
    Thanks for your help.
    David

  22. On Jared said:

@David: have you ever successfully created a showit web slideshow? that’s the first step to master. once you’ve done that, embedding it into wordpress is pretty easy. don’t try to embed it until you’ve got a working showit slideshow web page on your site somewhere. if you’re having trouble with that, you’ll have to work with the ShowIt documentation and support.

  23. On David said:

I have and Its working….I can go to the file manager on either account, drill down to the slideshow folder and start it with the index.html file.
Sorry for all the trouble…just not sure what I’m doing wrong.

@David: is that a ShowIt web slideshow? it doesn’t look like all the ones i’ve seen…

can you paste in a comment the embed code that showit generated for you?

  28. On Jim said:

I have a working slideshow but it is invisible on the blog. I have read all of the comments here but not sure what I’m doing wrong. I am pasting the “generate code” in the html section of the post and nothing appears except a big blank box with nothing in it. Here is the link to the show to see it does work. Thanks.

  30. On Anne said:

Can I have a password protected showit slideshow from my blog?

  31. On Jared said:

@Anne: yup, just make a password-protected post and embed the slideshow there. the option to password protect a post is below the post writing box in one of those optional fields below.

    Jared,
You have the patience of a saint and I know I’m already asking what’s been asked, but I don’t know where to upload this ShowIt slideshow to! Ideally, I’d like to create a link to the show off my main page (a “Click here for the slideshow” link). But I don’t know where to upload it either?

Here is the show in preview mode: file://localhost/Users/Gail/Desktop/ShowIt_slideshows/Cheri_senior/index.html (can you even access that?)

Should I pull the folder that is created in ShowIt in to Cyberduck somewhere (that’s what I use for FTP) and if so, where? (create a folder in wpcontent?).

To generate the embed code, it’s asking me to give the location where I’ve uploaded the show to my server – but I haven’t done that yet!

  33. On Jared said:

@Gail: you’re actually asking a ShowIt question. the way it works is, you upload and publish a showit slideshow to your site somewhere. then after its published, the embed code it generates will work if you paste it into your blog HTML-mode write post box.

if you’re having trouble publishing the slideshow, I’m afraid i can’t much help you, as it’s not my product. you can upload it just about anywhere on your website, as long as its in the public_html folder or html or www folder or something like that. you just take the whole folder showit generates and use FTP to transfer it up. then, if your website is http://www.gailphoto.com and you uploaded the folder right to your “public_html” folder, and it was called “susieswedding” then the address would be http://www.gailphoto.com/susieswedding . hopefully that makes sense!

  34. On Marcus said:

I have a separate server hosting my slideshows…where do I find the code for these?

  35. On Jared said:

@Marcus: it doesn’t matter if it is on a different server. when you’ve created the slideshow, showit generates an embed code for you. use that.

  36. On anna zatopek said:

Hey there, could you kindly help me? I have uploaded tons of slideshows before, but this i my first one in the new blog. I uploaded it to my server first, then generated the code from showit, then pasted that code into the html editor in my post. I do not see the show. I see there is room for it, but I see no show. Please help. Here is the link to the post I am referencing: http://www.annazatopek.com/blog/?p=280.

    Thanks so much!
    anna

  37. On Jared said:

@anna zatopek: something with your embed code looks wrong. this is what is there:

    <embed width="800" height="600" flashvars="showit_embed=http://www.annazatopek.com/|800|600|1|1|0" wmode="transparent" salign="LT" menu="false" loop="false" quality="best" bgcolor="#000000" src="http://www.annazatopek.com/showit.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="showit_swf"/>

try recreating the embed code and editing the post, for starters.

  38. On anna zatopek said:

Ok, did that and I am still not seeing it. I will just post the link if I can’t get this to work, but it would be cool to see it work.
    Thanks!
    Anna

  39. On Jared said:

@anna zatopek: did it generate the same exact code?

  41. On Michelle said:

I’m having the same issue as Anna did in 2008 with my slideshow not showing up. I’ve uploaded the files via FTP, embedded the code, pasted it into the html editor and nothing. It leaves a blank white space where it would normally be in the post. Here is the link to the actual slideshow… as you can see, it works in a new tab. http://michellekanephotography.com/senior_rep-2010

I’ve resorted to just linking to a new page from within the blog before, but I want the show to appear directly on the blog as it should. Thanks in advance.

  42. On Michelle said:

Jared, I’m not sure what I did, but I’ve gotten it to finally work. Thanks anyways!

Jared – trying unsuccessfully to embed my ShowIt Web slideshow. I’ve created it, FTP’d it to my server folder – I can go to the web address and view it perfectly. I hit Generate Embed Code, pasted it into the HTML part of my post, and all I get is a big yellow box with an F in the middle. ???

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
